Borderless Space

Borderless Space

from 150.00

In Borderless Space, photographer Chris Brunkhart gave us a glimpse of humanity, as told by the faces, light, daily life, and darkness of New York City. During his time spent living there, far removed from the mountains, Chris shot in constant awe of this new super-urban muse. The images in Borderless Space carry the same Brunkhart signature, one that indelibly influenced snowboard photography. But here we see Chris’ expression applied instead to the wilderness of the megalopolis. New York’s creative energy, its pathos, and its sense of unlimited hope and potential meld with monochromatic beauty as powerfully as do Brunkhart photos of snowscapes and legendary riders.

It’s ironic that this documentation of the human condition, of full-blooded life, took place at the end of Chris’ own life. In 2014, Chris fell ill with cancer and moved home to Portland. His characteristic tenacity and artistic devotion inspired the creation of Borderless Space, and kept Chris alive to see the book’s publishing in late 2015, only months before he passed. This first edition consisted of 150 copies, and will not be printed again. A portion of the proceeds goes to cancer research. Keep the Brunkhart spirit alive.
